It's been said that the best definition of plans is "what Man does when God needs a laugh". Such was the outcome of our college education. |

In addition to our work at Aņo Nuevo, where we worked with the seal breeding colony, the local ecology, and trained student docents for
public tours, we also helped our major professor establish a 3-acre vineyard. |

Although we had grown organic fruits and vegetables in our back yard, we had no background in wine and no experience growing grapes.
In an effort to learn winegrowing, we encountered either no help, or too much of it (ask any three people in the wine business for their opinions, you'll get at least four opinions back). So out of confusion and
frustration we made the natural transition from elephant seals to grapevines. |

During our tenure in the Department of Viticulture at the University of California, Davis, we held various research and teaching
positions. The Master's Degree we acquired in 1982 certified that were stamped out with the appropriate dogma. |

We turned down, on an extremely close call, the chance to establish winegrowing in the Philippines. We conducted a vineyard/winery feasibility, which took
us to locales throughout the United States. Then Eddy took a short-lived job as a commercial vineyard manager in the Santa Cruz Mountains while Nancy established a custom home vineyard for a nearby homeowner. Two things
became clear: a) Eddy is unemployably opinionated, and b) someone's karma ran over our dogma.Suddenly our mission became clear. DeVine Consultants was born to satisfy that same sense of frustration and confusion
we found to be ubiquitous in the world of wine. We adopted a 'fantasy camp' approach for those who want to enter that world, whether in practice or just vicariously. Despite the intimidation, which
surrounds wine, our message consists of "It's not brain surgery". Indeed, wine is EZ. |
